Course Overview
Having completed this course you should be able to adopt the attitudes, procedures and techniques necessary to safely lift and handle loads of all types.
Around 36% of the reported injuries at work leading to absences of over 3 days are attributed to load handling accidents. This is highly significant for you, since such accidents and absences lead to potential loss of earnings, missed opportunities and usually significant pain or discomfort. By covering the relevant physiology and how to reduce or eliminate the likelihood of injury in different work environments, this course will help you to avoid joining future Health and Safety Executive injury statistics.
The Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 require employers to remove or, where this is not possible, reduce the risks arising from manual handling tasks. Successful completion of this course will enable you to assess risks and adopt safe working practices in line with the requirements of the Regulations.
The course is divided into 6 sections covering the following areas:

- strategies for avoiding manual handling
- reducing the risk of injury
- how the back works
- safe lifting technique
- handling awkward loads
- risks in the office environment
